Information About Florida
The economy of Florida’s rests on a solid base of tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. Leading the manufacturing sector are electrical equipment and electronics, printing and publishing, transportation equipment, food processing, and machinery.
Agriculture
Oranges, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits lead Florida’s agricultural products list and some of them are potatoes, melons, strawberries, sugar cane, peanuts, dairy products, and cattle.
Economy
Florida is one of the nine states that do not impose a personal income tax. The state had imposed a tax on intangible personal property which includes stocks, bonds, mutual funds, money market funds, etc but one thing is that, this tax was abolished after 2006.Use taxes are payable for purchases made out of state and brought into Florida within six months of the purchase date. Also, there are documentary stamps, which are required on deed transfers and mortgages. Some other taxes include corporate income, communication services, unemployment, solid waste, insurance premium, pollutants, and various fuel taxes.
Food market
Florida ranked first in the United States for sales of snap beans, fresh market tomatoes, cucumbers for fresh market and cucumbers for pickles, bell peppers, squash and watermelons. This is also ranked first in the United States in the value of production of oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and sugarcane for sugar and seed. Florida got the second rank in the United States in sales of greenhouse and nursery products, sweet corn and strawberries.
Manatees are a migrant species and that are concentrated in Florida in the winter, but can be found as far west as Louisiana and as far north as Virginia and the Carolinas in the summer months. The Manatee grows well in warm, shallow rivers, bays, estuaries and coastal waters as Manatee have an unusually low metabolic rate, they usually don’t live in waters that are below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. They often live in the warm run off water of power plants.
